Compare and Contrast

Right now all of you slacking daydreamers are probably thinking, "Is fun Wii or sweaty sports better?" Well, today I'm going to answer that random question, but first I'm going to tell you what they have in common:
One obvious similarity is: they both require you moving in order to play. A second sticky similarity is: by the time you're done you're probably really sweaty. Another similarity is: they're both super fun! Now I'm going to tell you the differences between them:
Here's one difference (this one's more like an opinion): Wii is a lot harder than what it looks like and it's a lot harder than sports. The second to last difference is: you have to be smart with technology in order to even work the Wii. The last difference is: if you play sports you have to have way more hand-eye coordination than if you play sports on the Wii. My conclusion is Wii is way harder than sports.

Poetry

TAE-KWON-DO
By: Madalynne Naab

Sparring,
Agility,
Front snap, axe kick, side kick, reverse
"Hi-yah!"

SUMMER BREEZE
By: Madalynne Naab

You are cold, but hot,
And feel very good on skin
You cannot be seen.

BEES
By: Madalynne Naab

You love sweet honey
And buzz around filled flowers
that are beautiful.

PICKLES
By: Madalynne Naab

Slimy, lumpy, bumpy logs,
are they found in bogs?
Some are sour,
some are sweet,
oh, what a treat!

Hope's First Tournament

I am a black belt in tae-kwon-do right now, but this non-fiction story takes place as me being a green belt. This story teaches a lesson, and that lesson is to never, ever give up.
     "Dad, I'm nervous." I stated.
He gave me a grin and said,"I can tell, you're twirling your hair and biting your lip again."
I stopped twirling my hair and blushed. I made a mental note to try to stop doing that. We were at the Manchester Mayhem Tae-kwon-do Tournament, and I was in line waiting to spar some blue belt. I still couldn't believe I was strong enough to go up against a blue belt! Hilary (a green-high belt in tae-kwon-do and my step-mom) was up against a blue belt too, but I think that was just because she was tall enough. I was up next.
I can do this, I can do this, I thought as I took a deep breath and walked into the sparring-rink.
"YOU CAN DO THIS, HOPE!" Mom screamed from the audience.
"The rules are," stated one of the judges, " if you knock your opponent unconscious you are disqualified." Then he walked up to us and said, "Chumbee." (chumbee means to get ready in Korean) I put my fists on each side of my belt, so did the blue belt.
Then the judge looked at us and declared, "Seejah." (seejah means go in Korean) I aimed my fist at the blue belts head, and flashed my fist at his head. He stumbled back, and I couldn't help smiling. He made a ferocious face at me and lunged a roundhouse kick at me, but I dodged it. I snickered. Now he was mad. He tried to punch me in the gut so I would stumble backwards, but it didn't work. I ended up jumping back just in time, and checked him. (checking means stomping your foot and key-uping (yelling) in order to check to make sure your opponent is terrified of you) He didn't flinch, but instead he threw a jump-front snap kick at me, and then a sidekick. I stumbled, but didn't give up. I aimed a spontaneous tornado-roundhouse kick, and for good measure a front snap kick. He fell on his back and slapped the matt. Everybody cheered, "HO-OPE, HO-OPE!!!"
That day I learned to never, ever give up.

If You Give a Giraffe a Bath

If you give a giraffe a bubbly bath, she'll ask for some sudsy soap. When you give her some sudsy soap, she'll ask for a squeaky rubber duck. When you give her a squeaky rubber duck, she'll ask for a fuzzy bathrobe. When you give her a fuzzy bathrobe, she'll ask for a mirror to see how she looks. When you give her a mirror, she'll look in it and see that her dirty hooves need a trim. When you get her a nail clipper and she's done clipping her dirty hooves, she'll ask for some pink nail polish. When you give her some pink nail polish, she'll want you to paint your nails too. When your done painting your perfect nails, she'll ask for a comfy bed because she's exhausted. When you show her the guest rooms comfy bed, she'll ask for your favorite teddy bear. When you give her your favorite teddy bear, she'll ask for you to tell her your favorite story. When you've told her your favorite story, she'll realize she's all dirty, and chances are, when she's dirty she'll ask for a bath.

My Morning Routine

Every living thing on Earth has a morning routine. Mine is about forty minutes long. Here is what I do the second I get up:
The first thing I do is turn my annoying pink alarm clock off. Then I ask my mom about the weather. After that I get my beautiful clothes on. The fourth thing I do is ask my mom if she wants anything for breakfast. Then I eat my delicious breakfast (which is usually waffles.) The fifth thing I do is brush my teeth and my thick, wavy hair. Then I flatten my beautiful dirty blond hair. The second to last thing is I get my adorable little sister, Gwendalynne, up and get her dressed in her cute clothes. Then I go to my babysitters house and she takes me to school.

Tae-Kwon-Do

You should join tae-kwon-do. One reason is you can get really good exercise if you try. Another reason is you learn how to defend yourself. The third reason is you learn fragments of Korean. The second to last reason is your parents will swell up with pride when you take your tests. The last reason is it's super fun!
     Cool Facts About Tae-Kwon-Do:
     * TKD (tae-kwon-do) is from Korea
     * There is thirteen belts you can achieve (not including the ten degrees after black belt.)
     * TKD has been around for centuries

Andre Agassi

Andre Agassi is a phenomenal tennis player. He could serve a tennis ball on a full court by age two.
At thirteen he was sent to a tennis academy in Bradenton, Florida, run by Nick Bolletieri, who later became his coach. He won eight Grand Slam titles, as well as the "Career Grand Slam" for winning each of the four major tennis tournaments. Another phenomenal thing he has done is in 2001 he opened the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy in Las Vegas for disabled children. On the other hand he has annoyed tennis traditionalists by refusing to play at Wimbledon simply because of the events' dress code and the grass surfaces of its court. Another bad example is his disappointing losses continuing through 1998 and early 1999, but they failed to shake his focus on a comeback to the top-ten world ranking. My conclusion for his feeling for sports is he is very serious, loves it, and he is very good at sports. My conclusion for his personality is he is annoying and snotting, but generous.

The Rescue

One day I found a baby squirrel running around in circles in my front yard. We ended up giving the orphaned, 4-week old baby squirrel to the animal shelter. Here is how this true story happened.
When I opened the door to the house Paul said,"You should go inside and ask Mom if she wants you to do any chores."
"Okay," I said. I went inside the house and questioned, "Do you need me to do any chores?"
"You can take the garbage out, do the dishes, and do the laundry," replied Mom.
"Okay, Mom," I said. Then I went over to the garbage. I took it out of the garbage can and went outside to put it in the trash can. I stopped dead in my tracks. I saw a rust-brown baby squirrel running around in circles in front of my feet. I ran to the garbage can and thrust the garbage bag into it and ran it to the curb. Then I ran inside, being careful not to step on the squirrel. When I got inside I exclaimed, "I JUST SAW A BABY SQUIRREL IN THE FRONT YARD!!!"
     "Slow down!" shouted Mom.
I slowed down to my regular speed and reported, "I just saw a baby squirrel in the front yard!"
"Oh, then show me!" Mom exclaimed, no longer confused.
"Okay," I said. Then I went outside with Mom when I screamed, "STOP!!!"
"What!?" Mom said as she stopped dead in her tracks.
"You almost stepped on the squirrel!" I declared, a little bit annoyed at the fact she didn't notice.
"Oh," She retorted as she looked down at the squirrel.
Then we went inside to call the animal shelter.
"Hmmmm, okay I guess that will work," Mom replied to the lady on the phone, then she hung up. Then Mom ordered, "Go outside and get the squirrel and get in the car," as she handed me an empty box.
"Okay, but can't we keep the squirrel?" I questioned curiously.
"No, we don't have enough room," Mom replied. After I took the squirrel to my mom's car and got in, we started to drive to the Pizza Place. When we got there we noticed she was already there.
The shelter lady smiled as she looked in the box and said,"The squirrel looks like it's four weeks old and can't open its eyes."
"Cool," I said as I handed her the box. After she took the squirrel we headed home.

The Green Bean Catastrophe!

Once upon a time, a girl named Eve told all of her friends she absolutely LOVES green beans. The next day she got DREADFULLY sick. Then she admitted to her all her friends she actually HATES green beans the next day. Here is how it happened.
One glorious, sun-shiny Monday morning Eve got up, and got ready for school. She was very gloomy, she had to eat horrible, distasteful green worms (green beans). After she finally got ready to go to school she dragged her smelly, ugly feet downstairs and ate her delicious bowl of cereal. She walked out of the door and started slowly walking to school. Her dad, Adam, was already at his boring, old, shabby grocery store down the street. After she got to school (five minutes late, even though she didn't care) the day passed by quickly, until she got to lunch. It seemed like everything was going in slow motion. She went up to the lunch lady and she gave her slimy green beans, chocolate milk, squashy mashed potatoes, juicy pears, and delicious turkey. She ate everything except the green worms. She couldn't take it anymore she thought, but when her friend asked if she likes green beans she blurted yes. She ended up eating the disgusting green worms.
The next day she didn't feel very well. She told her mom, Emma, if she thought she was sick, her mom thought so to. She ended up not going to school because her mom found out she had a cold.
The next day she felt better and went to school. Just like the day before school went by like a blur except, lunch. She went up to the lunch lady and she gave her meaty meatball sub, chocolate milk, salty chips, crunchy carrots, and green worms AGAIN. She ate everything until only the green worms were left. When she heard her friends saying how much they loved green beans, she lost it. She ended up telling the truth to her friends.

Hope and Blizzard

Once upon a time, a girl named Hope was born, little did she know that she had a special gift. Ten years later she realizes she can talk to wolves. Here is how it happened.

     "Dad, I'm home!" shouted Hope.
"Can you take the cat outside?" asked Dad.
"'The cat' has a name you know!" shouted Hope angrily.
Hope called for Larza and she came. After Larza went outside she decided she would ask Dad if he had any errands he would like her to do. She asked and he said no, so she asked if she could go on a walk and he said yes. She started her walk. Hope often liked to go outside because she loved plants and animals. Lots of the kids at school thought she was weird. Maybe it was because she usually aced every subject, or because of the way she looked? She didn't know.
"WHOA!" Hope shouted as she fell backwards. All of a sudden a wolf appeared from behind a bush! It was white, that's all she knew before the wolf darted past her. She chased after it, she didn't know why but it felt important to figure out where the wolf was going. She chased it, and chased it and then the wolf stopped. She was just about to touch it, but it turned around. She noticed that it had green eyes and a fox-like face. Then it said,"You have a special power, Hope, you can speak to wolves." Then it ran away again. Then she decided she would come back tomorrow and find it.
As she was walking home she felt like something was following her. She turned around and saw nothing. After that every five minutes she turned around. After she got home she yelled,"I'm home!"
Dad replied,"Time to go to bed!"
"Okay!" Hope shouted. She went into her room, changed into her pajamas got into bed and fell asleep.
The next morning she woke up, and found the same wolf at the foot of her bed. She whispered,"How did you get in?" She thought she heard the wolf whisper a faint reply. Hope muttered something under her breath and said,"Can you talk?"
     "Yes." replied the wolf.
Hope asked surprisingly,"You do?What is your name?"
"Blizzard." he replied,"You have a special power."
     "What is it?" blurted Hope.
"You can talk to wolves if you choose to, this is extremely rare." Blizzard retorted. Then he ran out my room and out the door.

The Three Little Pigs, At The Court

     Q: How did this happen?
A: Our mom kicked us out of the house, so we built our own houses, then the wolf blew down both of my brothers homes.
     The Wolf: I DID NOT!
     The Judge: SILENCE!
Q: Why did the wolf not blow down your house?
A: He didn't because my house is made out of bricks.
Q: Why was the wolf chasing your brothers?
A: He wanted to eat them.
     The Wolf: I DID NOT!
     The Judge: SILENCE!
Q: How do you know this?
A: My brothers shouted that when they were in my house.
Q: What did the wolf do after he could not blow down your house?
A: He tried to get in by using the chimney.
     Q: Did he succeed?
     A: Yes.
Q: What did the wolf do after he got in your house?
A: He tried to eat us.
     The Wolf: I DID NOT!
     The Judge: SILENCE!
Q: Are you sure that The Wolf tried to eat your brothers and yourself?
     A: Yes!
     Q: That will be all.

Baby-Sitting Can Be A Hard Job

Baby-sitting can be a hard job. One reason why is if the baby won't stop crying. Another reason why is if the baby won't let you stop playing with it. Another reason why is if the baby won't eat anything you give it. Another reason why is if the baby won't stop talking. The last reason why is if the baby won't fall asleep. Sometimes it's difficult being a baby-sitter.
